Chapter 3b: Sequential Pattern Mining

Projection-based sequence mining: Representation • The sequence search space can be organized in a prefix search tree • The root (Level 0) contains the empty sequence with each item 𝑥∈Σas one of its children • A node labeled with sequence: = 1 2… at Level has children of the form ′= 1 2… +1 at Level +1 – Thus is a prefix of ′(or ′is an extension of ) • Example: let Σ ...

Sequence Mining - an overview | ScienceDirect …

Over the past decade, a number of sequence mining methods have been proposed that handle the exponential search by using various heuristics. The first sequence mining algorithm was called GSP [3], which was based on the a priori approach for mining frequent itemsets [2]. GSP makes several passes over the database to count the support of each ...

Sequential pattern mining - Wikipedia

Sequential pattern mining is a topic of data mining concerned with finding statistically relevant patterns between data examples where the values are delivered in a sequence. It is usually presumed that the values are discrete, and thus time series mining is closely related, but usually considered a different activity. Sequential pattern mining is a special case of structured data mining.

BLAST: Basic Local Alignment Search Tool

The Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) finds regions of local similarity between sequences. The program compares nucleotide or protein sequences to sequence databases and calculates the statistical significance of matches. BLAST can be used to infer functional and evolutionary relationships between sequences as well as help identify members of gene families.

An Introduction to Sequential Pattern Mining - …

Besides sequences, sequential pattern mining can also be applied to time series (e.g. stock data), when discretization is performed as a pre-processing step. For example, the figure below shows a time series (an ordered list of numbers) on the left. On the right, a sequence (a sequence of symbols) is shown representing the same data, after applying a transformation. Various transformations can ...

6.3. The Sequential Search — Problem Solving …

The Sequential Search ... Notice that items are still compared in sequence until 54. At this point, however, we know something extra. Not only is 54 not the item we are looking for, but no other elements beyond 54 can work either since the list is sorted. In this case, the algorithm does not have to continue looking through all of the items to report that the item was not found. It can stop ...

What Is Sequence Mining? (with pictures) - …

Sequence mining is a type of structured data mining in which the database and administrator look for sequences or trends in the data. This data mining is split into two fields. Itemset sequence mining typically is used in marketing, and string sequence mining is used in biology research. Sequence mining is different from regular trend mining, because the data are more specific, which makes ...
